Type Locality and Naming

Along the Madaniyat, Aristantau Mountains, Central Kyzylkum. N.M. Larin et al., 1989 (495, p. 41). Stratotype in the southwestern part of the Aristantau Mountains. Lower formation in East Aristanau Reef Fm(local)

Synonym: Madaniyatskaya Formation, Маданиятская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Lower part, black, thin-bedded dolomites;

Upper part, conglomerate-breccias and clastic-debris limestones, probably representing reef slope facies.

Thickness in Aristantau - 242 m; Thickness in Muruntay - 188-255m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformably overlies the Dzhengeldin Fm

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the Iza Fm in Aristantau and the South Bozdon Fm in Muruntay. (165; 495).

Contains corals - Embolophyllum sp., Paraheliolites ex gr. vulgaris (Tchern.); brachiopods - Carinatina arimaspa (Eichw.), Devonaria kolymensis Grats., Tentaculites - Nowakia ex gr. praecursor Bouček, Viriatellina sp., conodonts Polygnathus dehiscens Phil. et John.
